How Can We Love Difficult People?

“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18 NIV)

One of the most important skills we can develop as we walk with Christ is to love difficult people.

Here are four methods Jesus modeled when He encountered difficult people:
• Realize you can't please everybody. Even God can't do that! Refuse to play games (Matthew 22:18).
• Learn to say no to unrealistic expectations. Confront them by “speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15 NIV).
• NEVER retaliate (Matthew 5:38-39). It only lowers you to their level.
• Pray for them (Matthew 5:44). It will help both of you. Let God speak to them.

Jesus Is Worth the Journey

“When Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem.”   (Matthew 2:1b NCV) Searching for truth isn’t a part-time job. It takes everything you have. The Wise Men teach us this in the Christmas story. The Wise Men were willing to go to any length to find truth. Matthew 2:1 says,“ When Jesus was born, some wise men from the east came to Jerusalem”  (NCV). We can assume that the Wise Men traveled many miles from the Far East to the Middle East at great expense to find Jesus. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which is just six miles from Jerusalem. At the time of Jesus’ birth, Jerusalem was the spiritual center of the world. All kinds of spiritual activity was taking place in Jerusalem. All of the major religious leaders of the world were in Jerusalem, but none of them were seeking Jesus. What Kind of Goal Does God Bless?

“When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God.”   ( 1 Corinthians   10:31   CEV) Not every goal that you can set is a good goal and one that God’s going to bless. So how do you know the kind of goal that God will bless? Ask yourself these questions: “Will my goal honor God?” What kind of goal brings glory to God? Any goal that causes you to trust Him more, to depend on Him more, to love Him more, to love other people more, to serve God, to serve others, to be more unselfish. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians  10:31 , “When you eat or drink or do anything else, always do it to honor God” (CEV). Everything can be done to honor God. You can take out the garbage to honor God.
