If You’re Too Busy for God, Then You’re Too Busy


“Now dear children, continue to live in fellowship with Christ.” (1 John 2:28 NLT)

I grow several kinds of grapes at my home. If those grapes are disconnected from the vine, they’re not going to grow or bear fruit. Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5 NIV). You cannot bear fruit in your life if you’re not connected to Jesus on a regular basis.

This is true in all your relationships. If you don’t spend time with your husband or your wife, you’re going to be disconnected. You’ve got to do what you did when you were first in love. You need to date your mate. If you don’t spend time with your spouse, you’re going to lose your intimacy because you’re disconnected.

This is also true with God. You have to spend time with God in order to be close to Him, to feel His love, to sense His presence in your life.

I’ve been walking with the Lord for more than 40 years, and I will admit to you that the hardest thing in my life is to keep a consistent daily time with God because everything fights against it! Why? Because Satan knows if he can keep you disconnected, you’re worthless. You have no power. You have no defense. You have no strength against his temptations. He doesn’t care if you do all kinds of good things as long as you don’t spend time with God, because it’s your number one purpose in life.

You weren’t put on this planet to mark things off your “To Do” list. God didn’t create you just to do a bunch of activities. God created you so you could know Him and love Him and He could know and love you back. If you’re not spending time getting to know God, you are missing the number one purpose of your life. Satan knows that, so he’s going to try to keep you busy.

If you’re too busy for God, it’s real simple: You’re too busy, because you’re putting everything else in front of the number one commandment — love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength.

Why Nagging Never Works

Have you noticed how many difficult people there are in the world? Do you feel like you have to deal with most of them some days? You know what rude acts bug me the most? People who call me and then say, “Who is this?” People who honk their horns in traffic jams. People who cheat in the 10-items-or-less grocery line. People who steal your parking spot. The list goes on, and I’m sure you can relate. So, how should we respond in love to difficult people? Proverbs 16:21 says, “A wise, mature person is known for his understanding. The more pleasant his words, the more persuasive he is” (TEV). The more pleasant you are, the more persuasive you are. And, you’re never persuasive when you’re abrasive. Nagging doesn’t work. The way you say something determines the way it’s received. If you say something offensively, it’s going to be received defensively. That’s why love is all about your words. The Light in the Dark Times

“We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, Who raises the dead.”  (2 Corinthians 1:8b-9 NLT) Did Jesus suffer? Was He sometimes lonely? Was He tempted to be discouraged? Was He misunderstood, maligned, and criticized unjustly? Of course! None of us are exempt from suffering, loneliness, discouragement, or unjust criticism, because God is developing within us the character of Christ, and, in order to do this, He must take us through all of the circumstances in life through which He took Christ. Does this mean God causes tragedies? No. God is good, and He will not cause evil or do evil. But God can use dark and stressful times for good.
