How to Get to Heaven

“This Good News tells us how God makes us right in His sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, ‘It is through faith that a righteous person has life.’”
(Romans 1:17 NLT, second edition)

There is no greater destination for our lives than Heaven. The Bible says about Heaven, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9b NLT, second edition).

But the Bible also says the road to Heaven is narrow; we can only get there by trusting God. Romans 1:17 says, “This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, ‘It is through faith that a righteous person has life.’”

So how do you come to God in faith? The answer is as easy as A, B, C, and D.
  • A: Admit you need a Savior. You can’t get to God on your own. You’re a sinner. You’ve blown it. Heaven is perfect, and you’re not.
  • B: “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31a). Believe Jesus is who the Bible says he is, and trust him with everything you have.
  • C: Confess your sin. Tell God you’re sorry that you’ve done wrong, and repent.
  • D: Depend upon God’s promise in John 3:16“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (NKJV). No matter what you’ve done or how long you’ve done it, God promises that whosoever believes in Him won’t perish.
The road to Heaven may be narrow, but it’s not because God doesn’t want you on it. God desperately wants you to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.

And it’s as easy as A, B, C and D!

Talk It Over
  • What’s the best place you’ve ever visited in your life? How does it compare to Heaven?
  • Have you ever committed your life to Jesus and secured your place in Heaven? If not, what is keeping you from doing that?
  • Who can you tell this week about how they can get to Heaven?
